Our farrier chaps and farrier aprons, also called horseshoeing chaps, are made from a USA tanned 5 ounce pearl apron split leather, this leather is often called "mulehide". The 5 ounce leather is durable with minimal bulk. They are made at our own facility here in Idaho. For more detailed information, please scroll to the bottom of this page.
Farrier Chap length: We have two in-stock lengths, one is 23.5" and one is 30" in length. Both are designed to fit low on the waist. The nylon belt is adustable to fit almost any sized indiviual and attached with a nylon quick release buckle.
The 23.5" length, and its arge leg patches are adequate to cover the wear area on the majority of farriers while leaving some leather below the knee. This is the most economical option as adding extra length addst to the cost of the chap without making it function better for most farriers. We feel that this is the most cost efficient design without sacrificing function.
For those that want a longer apron, we have made the 30" length. Everything is the same as the 23.5" chap expect that we have added 6.5" in length.
The person in the photo is wearing the 23.5" apron - he has a 32" inseam.
Each has a spring snap and dee ring closure for easy attachment.
Deluxe or Standard: We have both a "deluxe" and "standard" farrier chaps. The "deluxe" farrier chap has large leg patches to cover the wear areas, steel rings for hanging the rasp, and loops for hanging nippers. It is also equipped with hoof knife pockets. Our "standard" farrier chap has the large leg patches and hoof knife pockets without the rasp rings and nipper loops. You will find our farrier chaps to be a durable product with good value.
Farrier chinks: We also have farrier chinks in our selection. They are our standard basic chinks with the addition of hoof knife pockets and leg patches. They offer the western chink look while also providing a durable farrier chap. The patches, unless requested otherwise, will be pearl apron split leather. If you request, we can add leather to match the chink leg in either roughout or smooth grain. We can also use black split, chocolate split, or rust split leather for the patches. You must request these other colors.
When selecting a farrier chink, please look at all the available photos. We have all the information available that you will need to select your chap and correct size. You will see a photo of the chink, measuring instructions, a photo with chink dimensions, a photo showing commonly available colors, and a photo of how to re-lace the backbelt to adjust size.
We have made every effort to make your selection process as easy as possible, but if you still have questions, then please email us with any questions.
